EXTRICATION DRILL
FALL 2021
Twenty-two members of the Oak Bluffs Fire-EMS Department took part in an Extrication Drill led by Industrial Protection Services instructors on Saturday, November 13, 2021. The firefighters had 1 ½ hours of classroom training then nearly 5 hours of hands-on training. This training is essential for our members to be able to rapidly access and extricate victims of motor vehicle (and aircraft) crashes. Victims from trauma have a much higher rate of recovery if they can be at definitive medical care within an hour of the traumatic event. Significant trauma victims are often flown by helicopter directly from the scene to level 1 trauma centers in Boston.
